Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist

Dr Aakanksha Singh has been practicing Child Psychiatry for over 6 years and Adult Psychiatry for 9 years. After finishing her MBBS, she went to PGIMER, Chandigarh for MD in Psychiatry. Besides gaining the clinical acumen and skills in treating adult patients with psychotic illnesses, depression, bipolar disorders, OCD, anxiety issues and addiction, she also gained the experience in psychotherapy, behaviour therapies and marital (couple) counselling. She received the medal for being the best outgoing student in her three years of training at PGIMER, Chandigarh.

During these three years in Psychiatry she found that children and adolescents were not little adults and needed specialized management. The challenge of this super-specialty motivated her to do DM in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry from PGIMER, Chandigarh.

She did a research on remediation in Learning disability (Dyslexia) and has developed a remedial programme for children with learning disability (Dyslexia). She received international recognition for her work and presented her study at 23rd World Congress of the International Association for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Allied professions, 23- 27th July 2018 at Prague, Czech Republic. For this work she was also awarded with Adopt a delegate fellowship by the International association of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Her training at National Institute for the Empowerment of persons with Intellectual disabilities (NIEPID) (Divyangjan), Secundrabad gave her the insight into early intervention, speech therapy, behaviour therapy, special education and holistic management of persons with Mental retardation, Autism and Learning disabilities. She also received training in behaviour therapy and psychotherapy and counselling from National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore. She is also certified in providing Oral placement Therapy (OPT) for children with speech delay and feeding difficulties. Her areas of interest are Early interventions in mental retardation and Autism, speech delay, feeding difficulty, remediation of Specific learning disability (Dyslexia), ADHD, Adolescent problems and parental training, Psychotherapy and cognitive remediation for adults.
